Soooooo, I'm pretty pleased with my progress towards accomplishing things around the house that I've been putting off for far too long. This new initiative has been beneficial to me because it helps keep me on track and accountable. Too often, I waste time, dawdle, or move from one task to another without really completing either of them. I spin my wheels, I sulk, I think, contemplate, with little to no action in some areas. This 3 tasks in 2 days keeps me motivated and excited about checking something off of my list!

Month 7: Mission 7: Focusing my Faith

Wow, I can't believe it's been 7 months since I've started this series! I'm so thankful that I decided to start this blog and chronicle my growth in becoming a better person! I'm grateful for each person who reads and comments. I'm just in a general mood of thanksgiving and I'm glad I've maintained this outlet...it has definitely been beneficial for me!

If you read this post, you know that my 3 tasks were to clean out my daughters closet, go through my pile of magazines, and go through my email inbox. Here's a quick recap...

Sooooo, a few days ago I launched Operation Get 'Er Done in an attempt to get out of my head and into action! Well, today, is the official launch, the straight up brand new re-opening of this new initiative! With the Easter holiday, there was much to do, places to be and lots of reflecting and thanksgiving going on so I thought it would be best to start fresh TODAY! I even heard from some of you (ok, one of you) saying that you planned to join me on this quest to get things done starting Monday, so Monday is here! Let's go!!!

I've been told that I have a slight container/ basket problem. Like... I buy them too frequently and use them too much around the house. I don't know that these statements are true, but heres what I do know: A good container and/or basket is a great way to organize your home and keep things neat and cute at the same time. Keep reading for 8 ways I use baskets and containers to stay organized!

Disclaimer: Please know that I know I am NOT a fashionista. People don’t ask me for clothing advice and many days, my outfits are not hot. I look for comfort first and then pieces that match my age and body type.

Whew! Now that you know that, here are some of my current favorite pieces... for this time of year!

What to do when you're DONE!!!

We've all been there...reached a certain level of frustration and annoyance with a person or situation that at some point, we realized that we didn't have anything else to give! We are over it, over them, and fed up! We are tired of trying, tired of caring, and tired of trying to make it work. Yep...we're done!

But being done, however appropriate that feeling may seem, is not exactly the type of feeling that you want to let linger in your spirit. Whenever possible, I find it best to address your doneness so that you and those around you move forward in a space of love and productivity.

I certainly don't have all the answers, but below are a few ways I manage to keep my doneness levels in check...{but I still feel DONE many times too!}

Looking for a variation to your standard baked chicken dinner? Well, I've used this recipe from allrecipes.com (don't you love that site?!) a few times, and I just wanted to share in case you're in need of something new...for those chicken breasts in the fridge. Aside from the taste, it's super quick and easy which is the start of a perfect dinner in my book!

Valentine's Day took on new meaning for me this year. February 14, 2014 forever changed the way I approach and appreciate this special day. Someone very near and dear to my heart...someone near and dear to the hearts of many, was called home a week ago today...on the day of love. The death of someone who had been a fixture in our family for what feels like forever speaks to the cliché sayings that we all know. Life is short. And while I can't say that her life was "cut short" it still serves as a reminder that no matter how well we live, how much we love, how graciously we serve, our lives won't last forever. All good things must come to an end. #Truth

So, I feel like I've been pretty busy this Valentine's Day season (can I say that...Valentine's Day season?) completing my various 14 day challenges. Yet and still, I wanted to make time to do at least one or two super simple Valentine's Day crafts. I had these lofty plans in my mind to complete all these fun activities, but...well, it just didn't happen. There are still a few activities I plan to do tomorrow, but as far as crafts go, we kept it real simple.

21 Day Gentleness Challenge

I described in this post how my default mode is not one that I'm always proud of. Starting on Friday, February 7, I'll be taking deliberate strides to change the Default Me by specifically working on being gentle. Here's my non-dictionary definition of gentle:

Here is a Paleo Chicken Recipe that is too simple not to try. All you need is some chicken, a crockpot, and a few spices. This recipe is very slightly modified from Everyday Paleo, a great intro reference book for eating Paleo.

14 love notes
I’m big on words…I remember things people say to me verbatim many times. I save cards and letters. I have a book of quotes where I write words that are strung together poetically with deep meaning. I really, really like words and I know the power they have. A kind word at just the right moment can literally be the difference between life and death.

Hey! Here am I!!! Did anyone miss me or notice my absence from blogging? Anyone? {cue crickets…} Well, I certainly missed writing and sharing and hopefully, I am back to a regular writing and posting routine. I did not plan on taking a break, but it’s funny how sometimes things seem to just happen at the time you need them to.

Even though I wasn’t putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, I was still composing in my head every day….still making mental notes on tips and strategies for living my best life! Keep reading to review my list of things learned/ remembered during my blogging break!

I came across an article online a few years back describing how a church created “blessing bags” to distribute to those in need. They filled baggies/ zip lock bags with items they thought were essential for those in their area. I loved that idea so much that I created a few “blessing bags” myself to give out as I saw fit. And because the urge to do this always strikes during this time of year, I thought I would share what my “blessing bags” look like for this year.

Y’all…I have a confession…a not so good, kind of shameful, I can’t believe this is me confession. You ready? Don’t judge me!

First, let me say that since I’ve been doing the work to improve me, I’m much more aware of how I operate when I’m not trying…like I described in this post about the default me. But as I keep working, I continue to uncover more and more…it’s deep…

Well, Happy New Year!!! I hope this holiday season was a joyous one, filled with good times with family and friends. I hope memories were made and hearts warmed with extended time to fellowship with loved ones. I hope reflection was given to the reason for the season and we entered 2014 with reverence and awe for our Creator and love for all His creations.

Hey 2014! How you doin'?

You know from my Makings of Me series that I like beginnings, so the beginning of a new year is really exciting. Seems like I get another year to do it right, do it better, and do it with love.

Of course I have a million {realistic} goals for this year…things I started last year that I want to continue with or perfect and things I’ll be starting fresh this year. Below are a few things I’m starting new this year just for 2014.
